I took myself off to finch central at Coppns Crossing today.  I didn't see the horde of Diamond firetails reported by Julian  but there were a few around; it was difficult to count them as they appeared in 1s and 2s not "flocks".  There were also European goldfinches, red-browed finches (at least 20) and double barred finches (at least 10).  Also one speckled warbler.  I saw at least 5 scarlet robins (see piccie).

To my mind the astonishing factor was the environment in which all this took place.  It wasn't actually the old sewage ponds but an area between the ponds and the river.  The vegetation here was basically burnt Pinus radiata, blackberry thickets, briars and thistles.  Not quite the yellow box woodland we all love and protect.

There were also a few billabongs (which the birds didn't seem to interact with) and the Molonglo had a good flow in it.
