Julian may well be on the right track, David, but my own observations in the ANBG suggest Ninox fungivora. This could explain the greenish you-know-whats.

 

Incidentally I’ve heard no reports of Swifties anywhere near Canberra

By coincidence I think I found the same fungus - certainly looks

similar and almost the same size - at ANBG.  Although the bite marks

are smaller you can see what was eating this one ...

Might give you a clue as to yours.  They don't look edible at all but

maybe they are delicious.  This bird stayed pecking away for about a

minute, maybe a bit more.
