After last night's (and todays) rain, Kellys about lunchtime
seemed to be full of both water and waterbirds. Mostly Black Duck (lots of) with
some Grey Teal, a couple of Shoveler and at least one male Chestnut Teal. Most
of the birds were concentrated in the open stretches of water and shore to the
left of Cygnus hide towards the Birrigai complex.
On the periphery of the swamp, as well as the usual myriad of
Yellow-rumped Thornbill and Superb Fairy-wren, was a Yellow Thornbill and a
Black-shouldered Kite was hunting over the grassy area between the Birrigai
fenceline and the water before very heavy rain drove it (and me)
away.
