I too went out to West MacGregor looking for the Zebra Finches and found
four, which I initially identified as females. One of the birds I was able
to observe up close, however, had the orange bill of an adult female but
also a slight chestnut cheek patch. While this is not mentioned in any of my
references, including HANZAB, I assume this is a juvenile male. As an adult
male has also been observed and photographed, there are at least 5 zebra
finches about.
While looking for the finches a Black Falcon flew over.
Cheers and thanks Roger.

Subject: Zebra Finches + Cockatiel
At least 2 Zebra Finches were present early (07:15) this morning.
They were very flighty and were moving around a fairly large area. I
saw 2 birds together (one definitely a male) and later a lone male
several hundred metres from where I observed the 2 birds together.
Also in the area was a wild-type male Cockatiel amidst a flock of
Galahs.
Thanks Roger
