I was feeling sick, but was desperate to go
birding on Friday.
So in the afternoon I went to Bibaringa
Saw 3 brown treecreepers, 7 brown quail. A
wedgie. It was very windy.
I got to Uriarra
village/forestry woodland on the corner of Uriarra and Brindabella roads. The wind had
settled and the sun came out. Interesting
birds were:
7 sitellas, 2 grey butcherbirds, 5 Diamond
firetails including 3 in juvenile plumage and 2 adults. If you believe Immelman
(1964) then I estimate that breeding must have started around Feb. I have always found diamonds here. Pair of
scarlet robins. White eared honeyeater. 11 dusky woodswallows. White plumes with dependent
young. Heaps of other birds. This is a great spot and not many
people visit. ie 2 species listed in the
Woodlands strategy are resident. Redleg grass, kangaroo and wallaby grass, many
poas, windmill grass are all seeding along the roadways.
Uriarra Homestead dam- 2 musk
ducks. One male and 1 was, I think, a
female.
On Saturday I think a black falcon flew high
over Hawker. Heading North. Did
anyone else see it.
