Dear Phillip,
 
The photos were taken from our patio about 15 m from where the bird was perched but we took care to remain behind a wisteria we have growing up the post of the patio.  I used a digital camera with maximum zoom and the photos were cropped to remove extraneous background such as the clothesline and pieces of the wisteria.  The resulting photos were then resized to give a clearer picture of the bird. 
 
I suspect the bird may have been interested in some of the small skink which are quite prevalent in our vegetable garden at the moment.
