I finally saw the Macquarie bird when it called loudlythrough my open window at
6.45am yesterday. With no thought of grabbing a dressing gown, I chose
binoculars instead and raced outside . In my blue nightie, I tried to hide
unobtrusively among the shrubbery just in case anyone was out walking the dog
in the drizzle. Reward comes to those who forsake modesty in the cause of
birding. The Macquarie bird is an all black bird - and it is most probably
also the bird that has been seen in Weetangera. The Page bird is a sub-adult
male and I have heard about a female in Cook. These must be different birds
than the O'Connor/Turner pair as I have been listening to them here when they
have been reported there.

Subject: O'Connor: Female Koel
Highlight of this morning's Koel performance was a chattering female
being chased around the neighbourhood by Red Wattlebirds and Noisy
Friarbirds. The male serenely continued its performance undisturbed.
