Today at Kelly's Swamp from 12.30-1.30pm under overcast skies:
4 Spotless Crakes (2 adults + 2 youngsters - small black balls on legs,
at one point being fed by parent. A parent also chased a Baillon's Crake
away when it came too close).
2 Spotted Crakes
1 Baillon's Crake
3 Buff-banded Rails (2 adults + what looks like an immature bird)
3 Glossy Ibis
2 White Ibis (overhead)
2 Black-winged Stilts
2 Great Egrets (overhead)
3 Masked Lapwings
2 Grey Teal
4 Silver Gulls
...and that is all...as the swamp is basically dry with all of the above
birds on one small rapidly dwindling puddle. Birds best seen from either
Ardea hide or from the footpath between Ardea hide and 'crake alley'.
I strongly suggest going and taking a look as there wont be any water left
within 1-2 days without rain.
Cheers
Marnix
