Hi all,
I went to Kelly's and the sewage ponds in the heat of the day yesterday.
I saw or heard nearly 50 species of note were a group of birds around a pool
at the far end of the island which starts near the Bittern hide. The birds
were best seen from nearer to Crake alley. The birds on the mud near the
shallow water included three Spotted Crake, three Baillon's Crake, two Buff
banded Rail, one Spotless Crake (which kept to the reeds) and up to five
Latham's Snipe along with other more common birds. Most of these birds were
feeding in the open despite it being really bright and hot. The Spotted and
Baillon's chased each other as well.
Nick
