A Painted Honeyeater was present in the same large yellow box as a
male and female Black Honeyeater this evening between 18:00 and
18:20. The Painted Honeyeater and an adult male, a sub-adult male
and a female Black Honeyeater were observed by an enthusiastic
audience. Many of the usual suspects were also in evidence. The
Black Honeyeaters were not observed in the vicinity of the dam this
evening.
The Yellow Box in question is easily found: Follow the main east
/west trail until you reach the slip road onto the north/south trail.
On your left hand (northern) side about half way around the bend the
tallest tree is a Yellow Box the crown of which is heavily infested
with mistletoe. The highest point of the tree is a black outcrop of
dead mistletoe. Aim your binoculars here!
I think that this may be very close to the dead tree that the Little
Lorikeets have been photographed in but that is a guess.
