Hi Paul,
Yes indeed there are many names for this
bird, which is a common domesticated species. Usually they are a fawn colour
above and pinkish below. Generally best known as Barbary Dove Streptopelia risoria (with a lower case r of course). You will
find the text about the Canberra records of them from the GBS on page 55 of the
GBS Report (in the pigeon section header).
