After 70 overs of blind cricket at Kippax thought I
needed to restore my sight so swung by Holt oval per JLs instructions and saw 2
male Superbs feeding under elms as predicted at about 16:15. Just as beautiful
in Holt or Wagga those greenies are...
Between 1800 and 1900 at Kelly's saw most of the
usual denizens, including 8 swamphen chicks. With help of Pat Williams was able
to establish presence of 2 Glossy Ibis, one in Crake Alley and the other between
the two eastern hides where more usually seen according to reports.
Present on the reaches of the larger pond were 3
Royal Spoonbills along with a single Black-winged Stilt amongst the ducks and
pelicans. Winging their way overhead were a pair of YTBC, which I found odd, not
because of their presence but because I had seen 3 YTBC on my way there
floating over the Monaro Highway towards Fyshwick. Given it is likely they were
the same birds, where did the third go?
Crake Alley was bustling with 2 Spotless chasing
around, Baillons being dainty and a Buff-Banded Rail making brief appearances
too along with a Latham's Snipe flying through, though the stars of the show
were 11 Black Duck flufflings scooting as far as that rubber band their mum has
attached would allow.
Cheers
Shaun
