On the matter of the stingaree/bird
interface (tasteless references to Steve Irwin declined):
On my way back to Canberra
last week, I spent a couple of days at Marlo at the mouth of the Snowy River.
One aim was to check the area for N hemisphere waders. In the estuary or on
adjacent beaches I found:
Sharp-tailed Sandpipers - 200
Red-necked Stints - 80
Bar-tailed Godwits - 15
Eastern Curlews - 2
Grey-tailed Tattler - 1
There was also a gathering of about 20
Fairy and Little Terns.

- Tuross (11 Nov)
Spent Saturday in the Tuross area. Highlights were 3 White-headed
Pigeons, 5 Eastern Curlews, 12 Red-necked Stints, Red-capped Plovers with a
tiny juvenile "ball of fluff on legs", nesting Pied Oystercatchers,
Caspian Terns, a Striated Heron along the Moruya River, plenty of Stingarees at
the now closed mouth of the Tuross estuary, and a Red-bellied Black Snake at
Trunketabella Gardens.
