I saw some amusing behaviour on Sunday in northern Goorooyarroo Reserve. I
had jumped off my bike to look for what I thought was a small macropod
similar to a potoroo in size crossing the track. I realise now it must have
been a Swamp Wallaby joey but I couldnt find it again. Anyway while
standing still a commotion erupted nearby and a fox leisurely ran past
within metres of where I was standing followed closely by a madly hopping
adult swampie. This chase continued for at least a minute with the fox
having a huge grin on its face and not seeming to run very hard all the
while followed by the swampie as they zigzagged and circled through the
bush. I soon lost sight of them after that. It seems the fox was looking to
make the swampie joey its next meal. Luckily I dont think he succeeded this
time.
Cheers
Marnix
