Steve Wilson's book 'Birds of the ACT: Two Centuries of Change' has my
vote for one of the books that newcomers - and others - will find useful.
In addition to the historical background, it includes a systematic list
i.e. a checklist (founded on half a lifetime's observation and many
notebooks) of the status and habitat of all the birds noted in the ACT up
to 1999. It is something which we never had before, and I often have reason
to refer to it.
It is a splendid example of what one bird observer can contribute. Steve
saw the need for a handy reference, and put it together at the age of 87.
He is now in his nineties, and lives at Brindabella Gardens, Theodore St.,
Curtin. Welcomes birdos and a chat.
