calling on the SW track of the NW end of Cooleman Ridge this morning.  It went pretty much through its full repertoire over several minutes, though somewhat muted.  Unfortunately it was about 200 m into the paddock, and couldn't be located.

This is about a month earlier than expected (first records 1/10 in 2005, 30/10 in 2004) though as noted in a posting about a week ago the odd bird does overwinter, but is very quiet and inconspicuous.

A Southern Whiteface (first for 2 months) and a late White-eared Honeyeater (for this area) shortly thereafter made the early start to walk the dogs worthwhile.  Also confirmed the Noisy Friarbird first heard yesterday morning - yes spring is here!!
