Look, I don't wanna buy into this abbreviation rumble, but it occurred to me if you've got bratz like I have who send me the occasional (thankfully it's occasional) text message on their mobiles, then the abbreviation difficulties within the chat group pale in comparison to the barrage of shortcuts the abbreviating little beelzelbubs assail poor me with. For example:

Abbreviating Beelzelbub: an' we saw c.50 pickies
Patient Pops: What're pickies?
AB: pickled parrots
PP: (annoyed) What do you mean, pickled parrots?
AB: eastern rosellas
PP: (with paternal patience exhausted) Why, in the name of Audubon, do you call them pickled parrots?
AB: cause their pic is on label of rosella brand pickies [pickles] an' hoos audubon?
(At this juncture PP counts from 1 to 10 slowly & makes mental note to belt smarty ears of AB at 1st avail opp.)

Cheers
A long-suffering Pops and Uncle
