Folks: why not employ the very practical approach (if writers find it too
cumbersome to spell out the whole name for a bird or a place), for people to
set their wordprocessor up so that it recognises the abbreviation and
immediately spells the name out in full in the message. It is no more key
stokes for the writer (once set up in their system) but would make it a lot
easier for many readers.
