Hello All,
Yes on Friday 18th only,an almost mature Osprey at the Ocean end
of the Lake, being mobbed by Plovers and then by Gulls.....interesting
behaviour was his?enjoying a paddle in water about 100 mms deep,he did this
twice.....On the Saturday as I was leaving the Depot Beach Rainforest walk
after another fruitless search for Marnix' Large Billed Scrub Wrens,a large
raptor flew over the tree tops,as I frantically searched for the Necklace of
an Osprey I realised I was looking at a Giant Petrel strange
sighting....there was an endless cavalcade of Albatrosses and Boobies out on
the Ocean, some coming very close in I identified a Wanderer and several
Yellow nosed but there were more species as well as Petrels of unknown
types....Several Double Banded Dotterals on the margin of the Lake, and a
Spur Wing Plover with three eggs at the boat ramp.....On Point Upright
itself a search for nesting activity by the Peregrine Falcon that has
previously used the cliffs for nesting was rewarded by quite a racket as
three Falcons engaged in noisy confict two males fighting over a female ?
this was at the exact site of the previous eyrie,so fingers crossed....Good
Hunting,Terry.
