Having only just joined this chat mailing list I am in no real position to argue what should or shouldn't be sent but I do very much enjoy other people's photos.

Not only is photography one of the main reasons for my birdwatching (the other being just the simple act of observing wildlife behaviour) but as I've been a bit of an armchair bird-nerd for most of my life I really only know about the super-common or super-obvious birds around Canberra and it does help to have an instant visual reference to posts people make about some of the less-than-obvious birds we have in the ACT like Weebills or White-fronted Chats - especially when they are often only described in the email by an acronym (which can be a little difficult for the newcomer).

I certainly believe any pic sent out should be of manageable size - a quarter of the size of a regular screen seems to be an appropriate size for an image? which may end up being not more that 150kb?  but then who am I to decide how big a file should be?...

Anyway, I just thought I'd throw in my 2c...

regards,

Dan

Phew - two contributions in one day! This one prompted by the problem some people have in receiving the many large photos posted to the chat line.

Our son, an IT whizz, has downloaded a FREE picture re-sizer on our computer. It seems to be easy enough to use and you can then attach photos to your emails which won't over burden the line. If you want to investigate (and/or then down-load) look at:

I would be interested to hear, Geoffrey, if the quality of the re-sized images will be enough for chat-line purposes.
