I went for my usual stroll at Kambah Pool yesterday (12-8). Nil raptors spied to entice the COG trip to go there, although that in itself is almost unusual. However there was one Pelican perched on a rock there (for at least 1.5 hours). It struck me as odd. I don't believe I have ever seen a Pelican there in many visits over 20 years. Strange, it is a river with fish. I wonder why they aren't there. I looked at Taylor's article CBN 12(4): 110-131 "Murrumbidgee River Corridor Bird Survey - Summary of Results" for more information. This is about COG's survey of the river, for a year, done 20 years ago. That reported the Pelican from just one of the 18 sites surveyed and called it a rare visitor.

At the last COG meeting there were comments and questions about locations robins. I found one pair of Flame Robins there (on the grassy area where the big power lines cross the path. They were perching on and foraging from verbascum seed heads - (is that how to spell it?). Last time I was there a couple weeks ago, I found a pair of Scarlet Robins and a female Flame Robin. Lastly, I heard nothing of the lyrebird this time.
