I recieved the below message from a colleague who has recently attended a
course here in Canberra to learn how to make his own Myna bird trap out of
chicken wire. After using the trap in his backyard for approx 6 to 8 wks now,
he has caught and more importantly disposed of 20+ flying rats with some basic
materials that are relatively cheap.

Subject: Canberra Indian Myna Action Group [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]

Hi,

Some Canberra Ornithological Group members have set up a group (CIMAG) to deal
with the Indian Myna problem in Canberra. This group is seeking people who
share their concerns on the Myna impact in the local environment. If you would
like to join or support the group please contact Bill Handke Ph. 6231
7461 or email

The greater our membership numbers the more clout we have with local government
etc. Peter Green of this group has designed a lightweight manageable trap that
has a one way valve that makes them very efficient. He sells the traps for $50
to cover material costs but also runs building workshops. There is a
possibility that when warmer weather approaches both Bill and Peter would join
us in a building workshop at ANBG one evening or perhaps a Saturday. Let me
know if you are interested.

Greg
