For goodness sake Philip, please show people some courtesy and respect.
If you really need to make such gratuitous comments, please do so off
line. I am not doing so now, but only because I hope thus to head off
the burst of unpleasantness that your comments could easily provoke. I'm
sure you don't mean to be offensive, but it's sometimes hard for people
who don't know you to realise that. I would be very depressed if this
excellent line were to go the way of birding-aus, with its aggression
and personal assaults.
The way to avoid that is, as I say, via courtesy and respect, while
healthily disagreeing as much as we like. The point of posting to this
line is to communicate - Frank, Terry and Shaun were not at any risk of
being misunderstood as to which bird they meant. Given that, a slip of
the finger - which I'm sure most of us didn't even notice in the context
of their interesting contributions - is a trivium best ignored.
Not for the first time I'm probably sounding like my mum, but that's not
such a bad thing in my opinion.
best wishes and happy birding all!
Ian
