The time has come to reveal all!  Following my last exhortation I received a further submission which successfully dynamited the logjammed pack of 7.  The top 5 are thus:

Gang-gang clearly in 1st place (with 8 votes from 12 submissions)
Crimson Rosella (7)
Galah (5)
Yellow-faced honeyeater (4) and
Sulphur crested cockatoo (4)

In total 22 species were proposed.  Of those not successful, 6 scored 3 nods, 3 got 2 and 8 just snuck in with 1 vote.

Common myna was very unlucky (about time the rat with wings had some bad luck) since while it was nominated by Mark Clayton he also said that if we stuck with native Canberra birds (I'm paraphrasing a bit there, because I have lost Mark's actual message) ) he'd replace it with an alternate.  I used executive privilege to make that substitution.

Most submitters scored 2 or 3 birds.  The best effort was by Wendy Whitham with a big 4!

Well done all.

Martin
