I think the criteria should not only be commonness but distinctiveness/uniqueness to canberra as well as a natural history/story behind them.
galah is not really a local having moved here
sulphur cresteds are everywhere.
I would go
crimson rosella
gang gang (not common but distinctive to canberra)
happy with Geoffreys others
wedgie
yellow faced honeyeater
superb fairy wren
