From: FitzGerald, Adam P Sent: Friday, 9 June 2006 1:25 PM Hey Benj, Well I don't know what it is but I have not one, but TWO unusal bird sightings for you today! I went for a run this morning up around Chapman oval (& heard the Musks there again) & thought I heard some Rainbows too. I then ran down around the back of Stirling & out around the ovals that surround Stromlo High. It was along here that I first heard a cockatiel, followed by a Princess. I then saw a pair of normal Princess Parrots & a single grey cockbird Cockatiel with a juvenile King Parrot, flying all around the ovals and in and out of the trees. It appeared as though the four birds were all together and being hassled and chased by 5 Eastern Rosellas! It was a very bizarre sight! About an hour after I got home I was out the back with my birds & I heard Rainbows screeching again! I looked up and saw at least 5, probably 7 of them flying past above my house. A heard them screeching & carrying on (as they do) a short time later so went for a walk. I found them feeding in a flowering leucoxylon on Streeton Drive, in the company of at least two Musks Lorikeets. On several occasions they chased several Red Wattlebirds out of the branches too. They were quite happy feeding there for over the next 2 hours & I could see them in the tree from my kitchen window and they were still there when I left for work! Obviously the Princess & Cockatiel were escapes, but I'm not so sure about the Rainbows.
