I can see
your confusion over Golden whistlers with
‘white undertail’. As you can see below, each of the field guides I have give
slightly different answers. I havent directly
quoted but pulled out the main points So it would depend on which
field guide you had.My conclusion
is that female golden
whistlers in the SE of Australia may have undertails buff to
white.
Benj
Slaters field
guide- Females: grey brown. Undertail pale buff in SE. Picture shows
white.
Simpson and
Day- Females: brownish grey, some with olive tint. Underparts grey buff to dull
white. Northern birds with a yellow wash. Picture shows buff
undertail
Morcombe-
Females: From picture only- writing says ‘Undertail
yellow-buff’.

Birds- Females: Upper and under parts plain mid-grey washed with olive over
back. Buff on breast and belly, throat whiter. Undertail
white, yellow, or buff depending on
race.
