On Saturday morning Bil and I went to Lake Jerabomberra and found that
large numbers of yellow faced honey eaters were again flying over. We
decided to try to detail their backwards path. Like Lindsay, we traced
them along the railway line which they crossed at Jerabomberra Creek and
saw that they were flying from the heavily treed junction of Monaro Highway
and Lanyon Drive. 1000s were entering the junction crossing Monaro Highway
from the direction of the Woden Homestead. Sometimes the birds flying in
from the west appeared to be confused and did not know which way to fly, as
if they were disturbed by traffic noise. They were still flying at
12.45pm. We did not look later. We did not see any birds flying across
Mugga Lane or Long Gully road.
