I've not mentioned this earlier because it is so vague as to be almost
useless, but I finally decided it might be worth alerting others to keep
their eyes open. Driving down the Brindabella Road one morning last
week, just above the Blundells Flat turnoff I saw a small quail/b-q take
off from the roadside, fly in an erect fashion across the road and land
among native shrubs up on the bank. Unfortunately I was paying too much
attention to the loose gravel and didn't see it until it flew. I climbed
the shaley bank, but no further sign. My strongest impression was of its
small size - I would certainly have said smaller than either of our
quails or than PBQ. It occurs to me that it's not so far from Blue Range
Hut, near where I seem to recall Steve Holliday reporting an apparent
Red-chested BQ a year or so back.
Might be worth watching out anyway.
How did you go at Rob Roy yesterday? (Gnash)
cheers
Ian
