I pretty much agree with all that Michael wrote
here and point out that I did not make the link between the two trends (I passed
it on). Maybe I'm pedantic but it doesn't even make sense that there be "a
simple cause-and effect link between declining numbers of HS to an increase in
the numbers of Sparrowhawks". There could be, among many other things, a link
between an increase in the numbers of Sparrowhawks and declining numbers of HS
but definitely not the other way around (as I mentioned). I agree nesting
space is a very likely important one in explaining HS trends.
