I am grateful to Chris and Anthony for taking this where they have -
this line is at its best when people are prepared to stick their heads
out and speculate, especially when based on what data we have.
Re the grasshoppers, per Paul - another perfectly reasonable 'I wonder',
but on this occasion quite likely related, but probably not causative.
eg HANZAAB's only mention of insect food is psyllids, perhaps taken
opportunistically when feeding on blossom? No ground insects noted.
Certainly the ones I watched at Macquarie seemed to be only interested
in the seeds, not the numerous hoppers.
And re Chris Davey - as I was crossing the road this morning to the
bushfire memorial opening, he and Peter Fullaghar passed en route to Tid
to do a lyrebird survey. Now THAT is dedication!!
cheers all
Ian
