Dear Friends
I am sending you this important conservation message because I am sure you
will be interested. Where possible you may wish to send it on to your members.
Sorry for the late notice.
For those of you
around Canberra this week, the Annual Herpetological Display MON to SUN,
16-22 JAN (10am to 4pm - though closing later next Sat and Sun) at the
Australian National Botanic Gardens has much to attract conservation-minded
people, including getting up close with reptiles, and learning about the frogs,
turtles, lizards and snakes of the Southern Tablelands.
This year will focus on corroboree frogs ?
with some 21 in a special display. A striped legless lizard and grassland
earless dragon will also be on display as well as a host of other exciting
animals.
Chief Minister Jon Stanhope will open the display at 1pm today
(Monday); tomorrow (Tuesday) at 11 am Peter Child will talk on animal care; and
on Wednesday lunchtime there will be a talk by Gerry Marantelli on what is being done to
save the corroboree frog, but you should call the ANGB Information area to book
for this.
There are slide displays on the reptiles
and frogs of the Canberra region.
Kids are very attracted to this event and
this year there will be a range of activities to involve them
further.
The entry fee is $4 adults, $2 children and $10 a
family.
