Out at Callum Brae under grey humid skies, a
cacaphony of cicadas accompanied a celebration of Christmas beetles feasting and
...well you get the idea.
Surprisingly the only birds that seemed to be
taking advantage were Dollar Birds and then only cicades as far as I could
see.
Saw nesting Dusky Woodswallows, (LB?) Corella and
the results of same in a juvenile Hoary-Headed Grebe on the dam with the white
pipe, several Wagtails around the next dam up and on the far side of that
dam lots of Rufous Songlarks in the same area as the DWs. Even saved a young E.
Rosella from a strange entanglement in the grass. Had its leg entwined in
some grass attached to some sticky brown goop. Have no idea what it was but
there is one relieved set of Rosella parents out there.
Was also a very persistant Peaceful Dove calling in
the vicinity of the dams, thoroughly outnumbered by Crested Pigeons which at one
stage got into some sort of rumpus in the top foliage of a tree.
Cheers
Shaun
