Howdy folks,

If you are interested in breathtakingly beautiful high definition footage of birds and other fauna, I just discovered a QuickTime movie put together by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.

It’s available at: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/guide/hd/cornell.html

To watch it, you will need:
  • QuickTime (a free download for Apple and Windows available at the same site: http://www.apple.com/quicktime)
  • fast broadband (the best quality one – 1080p - is around 125MB)
  • big good quality screen, e.g.: Apple Cinema display 20” or greater
  • very beefy computer, e.g.:

for 1920x1080 (1080p) video at 24 frames per second:
  • QuickTime 7 for Mac OS X:
  • Dual 2.0 GHz PowerMac G5 or faster Macintosh computer
  • At least 512MB of RAM
  • 128MB or greater video card

  • QuickTime 7 for Windows:
  • 3.0 GHz Intel Pentium D (dual-core) or faster processor
  • At least 1GB of RAM
  • 64MB or greater video card
  • Windows 2000 or XP

If you have these, you are in for quite a ride as the footage is truly beautiful; don’t be fooled by the lower resolution versions either (they will be good, but nothing on the biggest).

There are equally spectacular ones – especially from the BBC - available higher up at: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/guide/hd

Cheers,

James
