The blitz weekend is almost upon us and, predictably, the
weather forecast isn’t crash hot. But I’m hoping all of you
will find dry spells to survey your chosen grid cells. The prizes are mounting
up, so you might be lucky enough to be rewarded for your pains – and ALL
participants who attend the COG meeting on 9 November will get a native plant,
so long as I can keep them alive till then. If you’re a beginner and
haven’t been matched up with someone, come along and participate with assistance.
A team of COG members will be on standby, ready to take you out and help you
identify, count and record birds at two venues: the Australian National Botanic
Gardens on Saturday 29 or Sunday 30 mornings – just turn up to the
Visitors’ Centre, walks will leave on the hour, from 9-12; and at
Tidbinbilla on Sunday morning – meet at the Visitors Centre for 9am or
10:30am starts. And I hope everyone will find time to do at least a 20-min, 2-hectare
survey in their local park, nature reserve or suburb. If you feel inspired to
do more than you have signed up for, that’s great – the more
datasheets, the merrier. If you have any last-minute queries, just ask. But I
will be hard to reach during the day over the weekend. Good birding! Take care!
