Thanks, Philip, I had'nt realised that until reading Pizzey and Knights
concise "usurped nest" phrase an hour or so ago. In this case,
I had seen ravens at the tree a week or two previously, so it may have
been theirs, if not the currawongs.

build nests. They take over an abandoned (or perhaps steal a) nest, such
as of a raven, currawong or hawk. So that limits their choice, if last
year's nest has fallen down, they would need to find another available
one. It may perhaps be that they are trying to steal the currawong's
nest.
Peregrines and Kestrels also have the option of
nesting in tree hollows, buildings, cliff sites, etc.
