If you are interested to see the shots of some of the birds I managed to snap whilst in the Otways, the first @40 are they...

Remember to be patient while it downloads the files, and to clear your cache if they look like the old ones. There are @164 total now.

Some are old favourites, some are new for me, e.g.: there may be a Bayesian Thrush with a few worms in its beak and possibly the Pink Robin. Some are unknown altogether, e.g.: there are a few warbler types I have no idea about (3 & 5)? And 1 & 2 has unusually large eyes, but no idea what it is?

9 was a gorgeous but absolutely tiny little number, as was 17?

16 is a magpie impostor of some sort (didn’t sound like one, but look at the beak, the colouring and the size)?

6 is the dreaded gold finch (I think?).

I think I have both varieties of white kites?

There are some egrets and a swamp harrier? In one shot, it is being chased by the resident sentry crow.

I also have a fluky shot (not up yet) of some other kind raptor being chased by two magpies as they flew in front of the Cape Otway Lighthouse. Fluky because I personally had to go and rescue it after the other gave up on chasing this raptor’s mate, then they all ganged up for a three in one against the raptor. They had actually brought it to the ground and were attempting to tear it to shreds, so I am not sure if it would have lived if I didn’t intercede.

There are a few mountain ducks, and a mystery bird, 40, that quacked a bit like a duck, but looks almost like a bower bird??? I couldn’t get close enough to see it properly, so the photo is crappy, but might be enough for COGgers to identify.

Cheers,

James
