Short strolls at Acacia Inlet and Yarramundi Inlet at lunch today produced a single nesting pair of Silver Gulls on the pontoon in Acacia Inlet and a pair of Red-browed Finches building a nest in a Cork Oak, visible from Barrenjoey Drive. The female gull on the nest greeted the returning male while I watched.

I was first alerted to the redbrows by a bird flying along trailing a long green grass stalk. While this bird flew back and forth from the cork oak to a patch of regenerating bushland some 10 metres away, its partner sat close by the almost complete nest preening itself. I wonder which was the male?

An old faded sign near the bike path states that the 'Yarramundi Inlet Wetlands' are a breeding spot of the Musk Duck. I wonder when this species last bred here?

Cheers
Marnix
