Howdy folks,

We got back from the Otways this weekend (draw a diamond between Colac, Pt Campbell, Cape Otway and Lorne) and it as an amazingly beautiful place. I knew nothing about it but will definitely be going back again at some point. The Otways Tourist Park in Gellibrand is a great central spot with self-contained cabins if anyone is interested).

And I can only recommend it thoroughly to birders; I managed to a number of species, yet there were too many to mention in full, but these included spoonbills, many raptors, Firetail, all manner of wrens everywhere, all manner of honey eaters everywhere, lots of water birds from mountain ducks to an enormous bird (crane / stork?) that stood @0.6 metres tall, egrets, some kind of magpie look-alike, and many, many more besides. It’s all mostly rainforest and bush (they are stopping logging, an historical activity in the area, but there are still vast swathes of pristine bush to enjoy and they are spending up big time to make it appealing to nature loving tourists), with a very high rainfall (thus lots of ferns, mosses, waterfalls etc.).

I even got some good shots of wild koalas, echidnas and a number of snakes (just coming out of hibernation, so still dopey thankfully).

But while I am still working on processing the 18 GBs of RAWs (will advise when they are ready), I was wondering if anyone could tell me what this cute little poser is? Note the pinkie / purple tint on the chest:

He sat posing for me less than 2 metres away, so I have him in glorious 12 megapixels. BTW he would be little bigger than a golf ball from head to base of tail.

Cheers,

James
