Spotted turtle doves have the potential to impact on native species through
direct and indirect competition. I would much prefer to see the recently
established crested pigeons and peaceful doves in canberra rather than STDs. I
find their calls particularly annoying. If you want to see STDs why don't you
go to the many other countries like NZ and USA where they have also been
introduced, or even their natural distribution in Asia. Many Australian birds
are unique to Australia, so why even contemplate the replacement of these by
feral bird species you can see around the rest of the World.

I am particularly frustrated that Canberra and floriade continue to promote the
dozen or so plant species that you can see anywhere in the World at a flower
show and not recognise the >15,000 vascular plant species that are 'native' to
Australia, many being found nowhere else (indigenous).

The high population of currawongs in Canberra is our fault. Rather than blaming
the victim, we could remove cotoneaster, hawthorn and other berry producing
plants and cover fruit trees and nuts with bird mesh and this should reduce
dramatically the food source of the currawong.
I am not a purest. Obviously Humans are also present in Australia, they may be
considered 'naturalised'. But why jeopardise any more biodiversity, through
pests and weeds, when we have the ability not to.
