Hi all
They might be common, but . . . wattle birds are nesting with a couple of hatchlings at eye level a metre or so from the footpath at my place. They are in a heterophyllus purpureus osmanthus, and one reason, in addition to perfume, for planting a group of several different osmanthuses was to provide a relatively protected nesting place, so I'm very pleased.
And the scrub wrens appeared to have successfully fledged and departed from their nest out the back under the wire netting.
But the currawongs are back in their nest high in a tall eucalypt above where the scrub wrens were. So I hope the wattle bird nest does not just become another currawong food factory . . .
cheers
Barbara Preston
