Re my geographical poser, well done all. It was indeed 'central Australia'' in fact a remotish part of Uluru Kata-tjuta NP where I did the briefest of volunteer stints with Adam Leavesley. Although not well-endowed with birds, the shrubland there is certainly Banded Whiteface Country.

May I try you with a little 'whatsit' taken from my trip video. The hint is that in the latest BA Atlas this little chap was, in rounded terms, recorded in ZERO per cent of grid squares.
