They're back! Or did they ever go away? This is the question arising
from a sighting at Bibaringa yesterday of what were possibly the two Diamond
doves seen there last year......trouble is, this time there were five of
them????
Birds were sighted late yesterday (Sunday) about 4pm with light fading.
The attached shot was taken then and nothing to write home about but
distinguishing features (wing spots, white tail edges, red (or non-blue)
eyes ring) are visible. Birds were followed for 30 minutes and quite
nervous (must be my beard) and didnt allow approach within ten metres of
their tree without flying off again. At 440pm they were joined by three
birds of the identical size which in the poor light had no gizz to separate
them from the Diamond doves pursued/photographed earlier. No calls of
either Diamond or Peaceful doves were heard that afternoon.
Weather permitting, and if I survive my 40th this Saturday night, I intend
going out to Bibaringa again on Sunday afternoon to look for this small
flock. If anyone would like to join me please reply to this email
(unfortunately wont be able to make meeting this Wed,though if so, will be
after 9pm).
Regards
Stuart Harris
