Hi Steve,
To catch and release the birds would probably work but it would not help if it was done in the daytime. As in that would be more stressful than just removing the tree and letting them fly away and face bothering by all the other birds. The birds could be caught in the daytime and the tree removed and the birds would need to be released early in the evening, preferably in the same area. Then they could do their normal thing and find an alternate roost during the night, free from bothering by all the other birds. >From what I have seen of Frogmouths, they don't seem to get too perturbed by being held in captivity briefly, they just need a branch to perch on and minimal disturbance.
