I happened to be reading about the island of St Helena and found this: "1885 Five mynah birds were brought from India by Miss Phoebe Moss and released near her home at The Briars, to control cattle tics.  Instead, they themselves multiplied out of control to become a worse pest." 
 
Hopefully the cattle's eyesight improved and the islanders were able to get rid of the mynahs!
