Just in the interests of historical accuracy - and because I believe in
credit where's it's due, and in the importance of knowing the origins of our
knowledge where possible - it was actually Ian Rowley and his group who
recognised the existence of 2 coexisting raven species where only one had
previously been recognised. Like Harry Frith, he worked at CSIRO Wildlife at
Gungahlin (in the golden days when wildlife research was valued for its own
sake!), with a focus on the Gearys Gap area. Amazingly it was only in 1965
that the Little Raven was recognised as a separate species - and sadly,
after thousands of 'generic' ravens had been banded.
No help to the current discussion of course.
cheers all
Ian
PS Linguistically and logically, I don't think there is a minimum time span
which constitutes a 'reign'! King Martin is dead, but long live King
Martin....
