What Anthony doesn’t say is that before he gave me the THICK leather glove (belonging to Andrew Newbery) he gave me a nice, pretty “K-mart special” gardening glove – 90% cotton and not much leather. I was the bunny holding the butcherbird briefly with this glove until it decided it was going to hold me. A thin cotton glove is no match for the rather nasty hook on the end of beaks of all butcherbird’s, therefore I ended up leaking a bit of blood before the change of gloves. This really was nothing though compared to the nice piece of finger enjoyed by Andrew’s Galah. As for the Kookabura your eardrums are more at risk than your fingers – they make an awful din when you are handling them. Still it could have been worse, it could have been a chough which have a piercing scream…..
