Greetings. I have received this message - other list
members may also have done so. It seems a persuasive
case to me.

There is a proposal before the Snowy Shire Council to
build a wind turbine farm with sixteen 125-metre wind
turbines on a mountain adjoining the Kosciuszko
National Park at Snowy Plain. Construction equipment
etc. will be travelling through the adjoinig wildlife
area where the dirt road will have to be widened and
where this project will have a major impact on birds
and by road kills of the wildlife. These giant
turbines will blight the mountains and be seen from
much of the park. If this proposed project is approved
it will open the way for more of these giant wind
tubines around Kosciuszko and every other national
and state park.
The Snowy River Shire Council will be soon making a
decision on this proposal.
I cannot believe that anyone of sound mind would even
consider this proposal to put these monstrous bird and
bat killing structures on a mountain adjoining the
jewel of the Australian national parks where they will
be seen for tens of kilometres. I have taken the
liberty of forwarding you some relevant information
regarding these so-called "green energy machine" wind
turbine farms. The proponents of this project have
said that most of their complaints have been coming
from out of our Snowy Mountain region. I don't believe
this is true, but what difference would it make as all
Australians have a stake in our national parks and
wildlife areas, in fact we are all just holding them
all in trust for future generations.
I am not arguing the point of whether wind farms are
more efficient or beneficial than other types of
power, I am arguing the point that a wind farm that
kills eagles, hawks, bats and migratory birds should
not be located adjoining a national park where these
birds are much more prevalent than other areas where
the number of kills of migatory birds and others would
be far fewer. We in the Snowy Mountains don't need this
so called "green power" as we have all the clean power
we need...hydro power. In fact the power from this
wind farm will be fed into the national grid. So what
transpires here is a company desecrating our local
wildlife area and national park so they can make money
selling this power to other areas.
The company states that the area will benefit
finacially by some five million dollars. So we are
talking about trashing our national park for five
million bucks..some benefit!
It does not matter of any so called benefits that may
apply. The fact is there must be many more suitable
locations for these wind farms that will not impact on
our national park and it's animal residents. I have
less problem with these wind farms being built away
from hi-impact areas that will not damage any of our
wildlife. After all they don't call these things the
"Cuisinarts of the Air" for nothing. There are plenty
of other areas where these eyesores can be built not
right up alongside a national park. And once built,
these things will spread like wildfire, in fact there
are already four more aplications for more wind farms
in the Snowy Monaro.
Please write a protest to council and please send a
few words of your own rather than forwarding this
email.
Also please forward to any friends who want to keep
our national parks unspoiled, especially from
commercial interests who don't give a damn about them.
If this can happen to this magnificent park,
Kosciuszko, it can happen to your favourite national
or state park....please send a protest now!
Thanks,
