Bell miners feed on the lerps, leaving the psyllids to multiply while they
agressively keep their territory free of psyllid feeding small birds. Thus
importance of distinction between psyllid & lerp. With large colonies of
bell miners this happens to such an extent that the trees are weakened
(dieback), esp if other disturbances contribute.
(no wonder my pardalotes are happy - our yellow box is very lerpy, and looks
a bit pathetic most of the time, but the car that gets parked under the
mannifera is not so happy - or at least its owner is not, not that we want a
Californian solution - maybe they should import pardalotes . . . .)
cheers
Barbara
