G'day all,

I think we need to keep an open mind on these birds. If it was single I
would tend to lean towards an escapee but as there appears to be a small
group they could quite possibly be wild. I remember a talk given to both
a group here at work and to COG by an ANU student who said that contrary
to popular opinion that Superb Parrots religiously migrate "north -
south" and vice versa, they actually move to where there is a good food
supply, something that may be influenced by drought. These could be a
group looking for food as conditions are still not all that good to the
west and north of the ACT. They will eat lerps and take nectar and it is
interesting that for the first time that I can remember in 40+ years
birding in Canberra Swift Parrots have decended (and stayed)in numbers -
do members of the Psittacidae have some sort of communication system??
(I am sure Geoffrey will come up with something!!!).

Cheers,

Mark
